TIME’s Collection of ‘Mummies From Around the World’ » Lucy
Discovered by Donald Johanson in Ethiopia, Lucy is classified as the hominid species Australopithicus afarensis. She was named after the Beatles song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and is estimated to have lived about 3.18 million years ago.
