A reindeer jawbone was among the mammal remains found at a site in France that experts say show evidence of a rapidly cooling climate in ancient Europe.

In a new study, scientists say Neandertals in western Europe were ravaged by an increasingly hostile climate rather than an invasion of modern humans.
