The human hand and crab have the same digit /knuckle sequence, as did tiktaalik, shh is conserved, the ‘missing’ bone and associated muscle of the thumb (crab pincer) have fused in the mandible and tongue of vertebrates, they had primitively functioned as a trap door over the oral cavity, while the digits were probably segmented ‘tentacles’ .
