Hi Terry, yeah I agree -- we need more research that investigates the ecological effects of human activity in the past. Far too often do I come across this mentality that humans have little to no impact on ecological processes. Sounds crazy, especially in lieu of many large scale 'Green movements', but it seems some really are that ignorant and only more research can enlighten the reality that humans effect ecology and are not outside of nature.

I realise you may have already seen my take on the subject. But just in case you haven't <a href="http://remotecentral.blogspot.com/search/label/Human%20Evolution%20On%20Trial%20-%20Extinctions%20-%20Terry%20Toohill" rel="nofollow">here it is</a>.

I agree that the comment in the article, "both climate change and human hunting were critical factors in woolly mammoth extinction" is "Not a really Earth shattering conclusion" but I think it should become widely accepted that human activity has had a huge influence ecologically for a very long time. On the other hand we should also stress that all species have a huge impact when they first move into a so far unoccupied (by them) ecosystem.

The big problem for blaming climate change is, as you say, "But, the species had survived previous warming periods".
